Justin Timberlake Clarifies ‘NSYNC Better Than One Direction’ Comment [FULL GIST ]

After the media went abuzz with reports that he dissed current popular
boyband One Direction, Justin Timberlakehas denied saying that he and
his band NSYNCwere better than the British-Irish heartthrobs.
The MTV Video Vanguard Award recipient said his statement was taken
out of context and that he was actually responding to a question on
which group would win a pie-eating contest.
“I thought the question was about a pie eating contest. My bad.
#newsworthy,” tweeted the”Take Back the Night” singer on September
1. He was previously quoted as saying, “I have not seen them on stage,
but I’d be willing to say that we’re better than them,” then adding, “I’ve
seen them a couple times and I like those guys.”
One Direction and NSYNC came under one roof last August 25 in
Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
Timberlake performed with his former band mates, doing a short
medley of their hits”Girlfriend” and “Bye Bye Bye” before he was
presented with the Michael JacksonVideo Vanguard Moonman.
The performance sparked speculations of a reunion tour, but the hopes
of their loyal followers easily got crushed by member Lance Bass. “It
would be lovely to do it, but we’ve got nothing planned. It’s simply not
part of the conversation right now. We just focused on that one
performance,” Bass said.
